If you are planning a trip to Rarotonga at the end of October, make sure you pack your squash racket!! From the 21-27 October, the Cook Islands Squash Open will be taking place right here in Rarotonga and the competition is open to all ages and all grades making this a pretty unique opportunity to play some competitive squash on your Cook Islands holiday!
Play with the locals
There is a thriving squash scene on Rarotonga with many locals playing regularly at the Rarotonga Squash Club in Avarua and this is a great chance for holiday makers to mix it with the locals in what is usually a very competitive tournament. You will need to be able to commit to playing every day from the 21-27 October with the knockout rounds held over the first four days and the semi-final and finals to be played on separate days as well. This means you can take part without taking too much time out of your holiday each day to compete.
Players from across the South Pacific
The Cook Islands Squash Open usually attracts players from Australia and New Zealand as well as plenty of home-grown talent from right here in the Cook Islands. This year the organisers are expecting one of the largest entries for the competition and are encouraging people to book their place in advance.
Fun and games
Whilst the level of competition is usually very high, there is a definite atmosphere of fun throughout and visitors and locals will mix together on and off the court. At the end of each day there is usually a social event and players are encouraged to get involved in as many activities as possible during their stay on the island.
