If you are looking for a new and exciting challenge, then open water swimming might be right up your street and there are few places better in the world to ‘dip your toe’, so to speak, into open water swimming than the crystal clear waters of Aitutaki. The Cook Islands play host to a number of Real Swim Adventures races throughout the year as well as hosting personalised open water swimming tours that can be booked through Real Swim Adventures.
The KPMG Real Swim Race Series – Aitutaki
The Real Swim Adventures team play host to a number of races right here in the Cook Islands and over the 12 and 13 October, there will be two open swim races which are part of the KPMG Real Swim Race Series. This will form part of an eight races series in 2016/17 which are run primarily from Corsair Bay on Wednesday evenings from November through to February.
The aim of the race series is to get adults active and confident in open water, it gives them the opportunity to meet fellow open water swimming enthusiasts and have a bunch of fun whilst doing so. Becoming proficient at open water swimming is great for those who are planning on taking on other challenges such as Iron Man competitions or triathlons.
Real Swim Adventures Aitutaki Swim schedule
This two day event will be preceded by a fun and informal briefing on Sunday 11 October at Aitutaki Lagoon Resort & Spa. This is a chance for you to meet your fellow swimmers and find out more about the race procedures.
Real Swim Race Series – Day 1
The first race will kick off on Monday 12 October and there are three separate events you can get involved in depending on your experience and fitness; a 9km, 6km and 3km race. All races will start at 8.15am and racers are required to be on the beach ready to start from 8.00am. Spectators are welcome to join in the fun and cheer on competitors from the beach but they will need to purchase a ferry pass for $30.
Real Swim Race Series – Day 2
After the big race on Day 1 of the series, Day 2 sees a more gentle 2.2km event which starts from the beach outside Aitutaki Lagoon Resort & Spa. The race brief will start at 9.15am for a 9.30am start. Although it is a social race some fast times are still expected! and will be a more sociable race but expect some fast times.
Plan your own Real Swim Adventure
If this sounds up your street but you’re not ready for the big competition just yet, Real Swim Adventures also offer personalised seven day tours of the Cook Islands which includes open water swimming on Rarotonga and Aitutaki. The Rarotonga swims take place right out of the front of Pacific Resort Rarotonga in Muri Lagoon so we are often busy with open water swimmers throughout the year.
