Rarotonga will once again be hosting the ever popular Sevens in Heaven Rugby 7s competition which will kick off on Thursday 3 November and run through to Saturday 5 November. This annual event has been compared to the Wellington 7s competition over in New Zealand and it’s easy to see why. The Wellington 7s are so successful because it’s seen as more than just a rugby 7s competition – it’s a chance for friends and family to come together, enjoy a great day out as well as seeing some top class rugby 7s.
Sevens in Heaven 2016
This year’s competition will feature 20 men’s teams and 6 women’s teams and will be held at the BCI Stadium in Nikao. The name ‘Sevens in Heaven’ was brought about because for many, this is an opportunity to play one of the games they love in a place like no other. Playing on the paradise island on Rarotonga not only offers up a unique opportunity to play international rugby 7s on a tropical island, but also gives people the chance to enjoy a relaxing holiday right here in Rarotonga.
Join in the fun
Following the same successful model as the Wellington 7s, the Cook Islands International 7s competitions takes on a very fun and festive atmosphere with lots of novelty events complimenting the awesome international rugby games taking place. Two of the most popular events are the CITC Costumer Competition and many of the supporters come dressed in fancy dress for the day. The other popular event is the ANZ Dash for Cash which give spectators the chance to win some cash to make their day even better!
As well as competitions and prize draws throughout all three days of the competition, there is also a wide range of vendors with delicious food options for you to enjoy throughout your day at the 7s.
