Te Mire Tama and Tama Aito are competitions held for Cook Island’s youth between the ages of 14 to 17 years old. The event is held in Spring mainly because flowers like frangipani and gardenias bloom during this time of the year. Female competitors take a local flower as their name while the males choose a plant or tree that best represents them. Entrants train to improve in overall self-confidence and in their abilities in public speaking, natural talents and presentation skills. On the day they are asked to recite a speech and showcase their natural talent.
