Now in its 12th year Vaka Eiva is now appears on the world stage of Oe Vaka events. Held in the last week of every November, Vaka Eiva draws around 1000 paddlers annually to compete in a week long regatta of ocean racing, incorporating V1 & OC1 individual Iron and V6 Iron (12km & 18km), lagoon sprints 500m and the supreme 36km Round Rarotonga Relay challenge. Racing divisions are men’s & women’s U19, Open, Masters, Senior Masters & Golden Masters. Our Mapu (Juniors) U14 & U16 are not forgotten and have their own race day of lagoon sprints and 2km & 4km Iron races and their own wrap-up party afterwards.
Outside of racing, events over the course of the week include a traditional welcoming ceremony, the kai kai (meal) on arrival and culture showcase with local performances, the Muri Mingler Party on the beach at Muri Lagoon and the Official Closing Ceremony featuring the “Paddles Up Party” is held on the Friday evening following the Round Rarotonga Relay.
