If you’re going to be in Rarotonga at the end of July then you’re in for a bit of a treat. The annual BCI Cook Islands Trade Day Event is a three day celebration of all things to do with the Cook Islands from the people and culture to the food and handicrafts.
Te Maeva Nui
The BCI Trade Event falls just before Te Maeva Nui (a celebration of the Cook Island’s Constitution) and is a great time of year to visit Rarotonga. The event celebrates the country’s independence and nationhood and is held annually on the 4th of August. With the trade event taking place on the 25-27 July, visitors to the Cook Islands during this time can be assured of a fantastic trip with lots of events and activities to get involved with and a real chance to gain an understanding of the history and culture of the people and the islands.
Bank of the Cook Islands
The Trade Event is once again sponsored by the Bank of the Cook Islands and sees trade stalls and vendors arriving from across all of the Cook Islands, helping to raise the awareness of life on the outer islands beyond Rarotonga. The event will once again be held at Constitution Park – a large venue which will cater for 50+ vendors.
If you are in Rarotonga during the week of the Trade Event, make sure you head down to Constitution Park where you will be able to sample some of the delightful food on offer from around the Cook Islands including speciality products such as Aitu coffee, Mauke miracle oils, Maire ei’s, Palmerston parrot fish, Aitutaki tupa (mud crab) and remu (seaweed).
As well as the delicious food, visitors will also be able to purchase local handicrafts that are unique to each of the Cook Islands that make for fantastic gifts or reminders of your trip to the Cook Islands. Some of these handicrafts are only available for purchase on the specific island usually so this is a great chance to pick up something unique without leaving Rarotonga.
We really hope to see many of our guests here at Pacific Resort Rarotonga heading down to the trade event and if you want to find out more information about the event, speak to one of our reception staff and they will be happy to tell you more.
