Enhancement projects underway for Little Polynesian Resort.

Posted on August 30, 2017

Little Polynesian Resort was warmly welcomed into the Pacific Resort Hotel Group (PRHG) family in November 2016 and during this 8 month transition period a number of refurbishment projects have begun at the 4.5 star property.

The integration of Little Polynesian Resort into PRHG has been seamless, with the group adding value to the business quickly whilst amplifying CEO Greg’s Stanaway’s initial aim “to continue to work on the solid foundations already in place while further enhancing its appeal and reputation”.

The most notable change since PRHG’s acquisition of Little Polynesian Resort is the acceptance into one of the world’s most exclusive, independent and finest luxury hotel brands – Small Luxury Hotels of the World (SLH). Little Polynesian proudly became a SLH member in early 2017, with the resort continuing to strive to maintain this premier membership.

A structural change includes Nan Thompson-Enoka and her new position of Resident Manager. Nan has been with the PRHG family for over nine years, holding various positions. Her new role has emphasis on guest services and after hour’s contact.

With the guidance of Corporate Executive Chef, Tim Tierney, the Restaurant & Bar now has a new menu and wine list to compliment. The resort now defines its cuisine style as “serving a fusion of classic fare with Polynesian cuisine featuring fresh seafood and local Cook Island-grown products”.  Little Polynesian Resort has also introduced some refreshing breakfast additions, including gluten free options, pastries, daily freshly made juices and a range of house made organic gluten-free light grain cereals.

The first major refurbishment project was in full swing from the end of January, which will see the entire property’s roofs rethatched with Palmex, a synthetic eco-friendly palm leaf tropical thatch. After a short break during the peak season, rethatching work is expected to resume.

There has also been a strong focus on landscaping the property with Grounds Manager, Blair Wilson, leading the early phase of establishing and consolidating the landscaping project. Wilson, an expert in his field, also maintains the beautiful 6-acre gardens and grounds at Pacific Resort Rarotonga.

For Little Polynesian Resort, a full internal renovation program with a focus on the upgrading of soft furnishings has been put in place. New furnishings currently include Nespresso machines, bed spreads, king-size pillows, essence burners with further upgrades to come.

Pacific Resort Hotel Group is excited about the projects in the pipeline for Little Polynesian Resort and will continue making enhancements to the property to ensure it upholds the high standards that make Little Polynesian Resort a premier luxury accommodation choice in Rarotonga.
