Rarotonga Christmas Markets & Parade
These are popular Christmas time events in Rarotonga. There are dance groups performing, festive floats, school groups dancing, Christmas-themed food and a visit from Santa. If this is your first Christmas in Rarotonga events such as the Tropical Christmas Santa Parade and local festive markets are the best events because they are largely local events. Everything is turned on to make this the most memorable Christmas for our visitors and for locals alike.
Take a stroll through town
Avarua’s main street has a fun way of decorating for the season, including coloured street lights, palm frond Island-styled Christmas Trees and local decorations light up the town.
Christmas Community Spirit
The festive season is also a time of giving back to our local community. Each year Pacific Resort Hotel Group – along with some of our guests – get involved with the Bank of South Pacific (BSP) Gifting Christmas Tree outreach programme. Gifts are donated and distributed to children all over the Cook Islands who will get to open a special gift on Christmas day.
Attend a Church Service
Church is an important part of the Christmas celebrations in the Cook Islands. There are many opportunities in the weeks beforehand for daytime and evening services and each church holds a service on Christmas Day. Even if you aren’t a regular church goer, attending a church service in the Cook Islands can be a memorable holiday experience. The harmonies of the locals singing together is one of the best sounds of the Pacific.
