With a long history of charity sponsorship and support of community events, Pacific Resort Hotel Group and Little Polynesian Resort are delighted to have supported the Sony Foundation with their recent ‘Brissy4ward’ event, in support of ‘You Can’, Sony Foundation’s youth cancer program to support young Australians, aged 15 to 25, diagnosed with cancer.
During a long lunch event and live auction, AUD$375,000 was raised towards a new ‘You Can Centre’, which is a hospital ward for cancer patients aged from 15 to 25. This youth cancer centre is the first for Queensland and is due to be opened next year at the Royal Brisbane & Women’s Hospital, Brisbane.
Founded by Sony Foundation Australia, You Can encourages young cancer patients and supporters to connect, to share their experiences and gain support from others through specialised, age-appropriate youth cancer centres, funded by Sony Foundation Australia, and via You Can Connect, an online peer to peer sharing platform. The long term goal of the initiative is to establish ‘youth cancer centres’ across Australia, to encourage further specialist training and to offer support services to those affected by cancer.
Established in 2010, ‘You Can Centres’ have already been established in Perth and Melbourne, with construction currently taking place in Sydney, and the Brisbane center the next in line for development.
Little Polynesian Resort had donated a six night stay in a Beachfront Bungalow for the fundraiser auction, which was quickly snapped up by current Queensland State of Origin head coach, Kevin Walters (pictured above after the auction had concluded). Mr. Walters made a winning bid of AUD$10,000.00 for this fantastic package, and will no doubt be looking forward to some rest and relaxation here in the little paradise of the Cook Islands.
