Moana Sands Group Shows Support to the Bone Marrow Cancer Trust

“Our son Tyler was diagnosed with a brain tumor when he was 4½ years old.

We had a fully furnished two-bedroom self-contained apartment at Ranui House and it really did make our journey a little easier.  This became our home away from home.

We felt safe and secure at Ranui House and liked our own privacy and freedom to come and go.  Ranui House is an amazing place and helped us so much while our son was sick. Ranui House will always be in our hearts and we are so thankful that this place has been made for people that need it.”

Parents and families such as Tyler’s have gratefully benefited from efforts of the Bone Marrow Cancer Trust and the supportive environment and essential accommodation that the Ranui House provides.

New Zealanders from all parts of the country require specific medical treatments which at times can require them to travel away from home to a Christchurch Hospital.  While health issues are already stressful enough, patients from further regions are also confronted with the added strain of finding accommodation for themselves or their families near the hospital to attend appointments and treatments.

The Bone Marrow Cancer Trust was created in 1990, and has since raised funds to help build the Bone Marrow Transplant Unit at Christchurch Hospital and went onto build and operate the Ranui House, a nearby accommodation facility in 1993. The Ranui House has since continued to expand, providing accommodation and patient care to an increasing amount of New Zealanders in need.

The Bone Marrow Cancer Trust is currently fundraising for a new building, as demand for this essential accommodation continues to grow. The Bone Marrow Cancer Trust currently does not receive any government funding. The new required building, maintenance and operation of these houses relies purely on fundraising and donations.

Pacific Resort Hotel Group is a proud continued sponsor of the Bone Marrow Cancer Trust. This year, Pacific Resort Hotel Group’s partner property, Moana Sands Group, donated a 4-night stay for two in a Deluxe Beachfront Studio at Moana Sands Villas in Rarotonga. This accommodation package was auctioned of to the public at “St. Practice Day” fundraiser event held a day before St. Patrick’s Day on March 16th 2017 at the Bog Irish Bar, Christchurch.

Moana Sands Group were pleased to provide an accommodation package this year to support this important initiative and to help aid with funding of the new building the trust aims to build.
