National Gospel Day – Public Holiday

Posted on October 26, 2015

This year the Cook Islands will spend the 26th of October celebrating National Gospel Day, an annual event to mark the arrival of Christianity to the South Pacific nation. Locals are granted a public holiday and events are organised by Cook Islands Christian Church. Islanders dress up, stage elaborate dramas or “nuku”, sing, dance and generally have a good time while the churches themselves compete against each other to put on the best show.
