The New Zealand Symphony Orchestra (NZSO), New Zealand’s premier, full-size, full-time professional orchestra are currently raising funds in order to help bring a new harp to life on stage.
In support of the new harp purchase, Pacific Resort Hotel Groups 4.5 star property, Little Polynesian Resort put forth a Little Polynesian Resort accommodation package. The accommodation package was auctioned off at the NZSO Foundation Gala Soiree held at Auckland’s St Matthew-in-the-City on 26 August, 2017.
The NZSO’s Gala Soirée featured performances by NZSO musicians with live and silent auctions rising over $105,000 towards the new harp purchase.
Mr Mark van Lent was the fortunate recipient of the five night Little Polynesian Resort prize package valued at $8,900. He can now look forward to some relaxation time in Rarotonga, staying in a Beachfront Bungalow at award winning Little Polynesian Resort.
The new harp will be contracted by craftsman Kim Webb an extraordinary talented harp builder and technician. Kim began making harps at 16 years of age and has since spent the rest of his life developing his craft.
The new harp currently under construction will be the second he has made for the NZSO and will take approximately 2 years to build. The build involves a considerable amount of precision metal work with around 2000 wood and metal components required to complete the harp. Kim designs, cuts, moulds and shapes almost every piece needed for the harp large or small in his workshop located in Whangarei, New Zealand.
