Hawai‘i Gateway to 15 US Cities with Hawaiian Airlines
New Non-Stop Service from Honolulu
Prime Minister Honourable Mark Brown announced that Hawaiian Airlines will launch direct flights from Honolulu to the Cook Islands starting 20 May 2023.
“After months of active discussions, my officials completed the due diligence and paperwork required,” he said. “These flights will provide important access to the North American market and form a key pillar in our recovery from COVID-19.”
Importance of the US Market
Non-stop flights between North America and the Cook Islands stopped at the start of the pandemic. As a result, the country lost 15,700 seats annually and nearly 12,000 visitors each year from the USA, Canada, Europe, and the United Kingdom.
The US remains the third-largest market for the Cook Islands, after New Zealand and Australia. In 2019, over 8,400 visitors came from the US and 2,700 from Canada.
Therefore, re-establishing this connection is vital for the recovery of Cook Islands tourism.
Hawaiian Airlines: A Trusted Partner
Hawaiian Airlines previously operated this route from 1987 to 1995. Now, as a well-established carrier committed to sustainability, the airline returns as an ideal partner.
This service will also link the Cook Islands with major US destinations, including Los Angeles, the Pacific Northwest, and 15 other cities.
Launch and Ticket Sales
Tickets will go on sale from 7 December 2022, with flights beginning 20 May 2023.
